Could someone remind me how to create a custom brush for the terrain editor? Nicolas taught me how to do it at the Unite conference, but I've completely blanked out.If it's still a secret, PM me and I promise to keep my mouth shut;-)BTW, I've had some real problems importing RAW height map files into the terrain editor. I've been getting either a 'forest of needles' effect (for both simple and complex maps) or'Terrain not correctly connected to a terrainData objectUnityEngine.Terrain:OnRenderObject(Int32)'Can someone explain this?

Click to expand.The main reason to work with a RAW file externally is to use an existing heightfield, like a Digital Elevation Model, or one generated from another terrain modeling tool like Bryce or Terragen or Windows-based heightmap editors. The terrain sculpting tools in Unity are a decent first pass, but there are other more mature tools out there as well, and importing a RAW lets you use them.However, has has been discussed before, PhotoShop is not a good way to create heightmaps because your screen can't represent 16 bits of grayscale information. No word, but other people have posted scripts with undocumented APIs so I assume it's OK.in fact I meant to post this ages ago, thanks for the reminder.Usage: if you don't already have an Editor folder in your project, make one and put this script in it.

Make sure your terrain has at least 4 textures, then select the splatmap you want to use, then go to the Terrain menu and select Apply Splatmap.WARNING: contains undocumented APIs (GetAlphamaps and SetAlphamaps), which can and will break in the future. Use these commands at your own risk. In particular, do not use them in webplayers. Once splatmaps are imported, though, they are just like any other splatmaps and can be used just fine with no risk. It's only the use of undocumented APIs that could be problematic in your own scripts, and this script might fail to work with future versions of Unity.-Eric.
